Sarnath Half Day Tour from Varanasi – 4 Hours

Sarnath Half Day Tour from Varanasi

Discover the spiritual and historical heritage of Sarnath on a 4-hour guided Sarnath half day tour from Varanasi with Monu Tours. This private sightseeing experience is ideal for travelers who want to explore the place where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment.

Tour Price: ₹2,500 per person
Duration: Approximately 4 hours
Start Time: 9:00 AM
Meeting Point: Outside Hotel Ganges Grand, Godowlia, Varanasi

Pickup and Meeting Point

Your licensed professional guide will meet you outside Hotel Ganges Grand at 9:00 AM. Because taxis cannot reach the exact meeting point, you will take a short walk with your guide to the air-conditioned car.

From there, you will travel comfortably to Sarnath, located approximately 10 km from central Varanasi.

Explore the Buddhist Heritage of Sarnath

Once you arrive in Sarnath, your guide will introduce you to the fascinating history of Buddha, Buddhism, and the teachings and philosophy of the Buddhist tradition.

You will visit important archaeological, religious, and historical sites, including:

Mulagandha Kuti Vihar Temple

Begin your Sarnath visit at Mulagandha Kuti Vihar, also known as the Sri Lankan Temple. The temple is an important Buddhist site and is known for its beautiful interior artwork and peaceful surroundings.

Sarnath Archaeological Ruins

Continue to the ancient ruins of Sarnath, where you can explore the remains of Buddhist monasteries, temples, and stupas. Your guide will explain the history and significance of the archaeological remains, including:

  • Votive stupas
  • Dharmarajika Stupa
  • Dhamek Stupa
  • Ancient monastery and temple ruins

The site has strong connections with Emperor Ashoka, who played an important role in spreading Buddhism and establishing monuments at Sarnath during the 3rd century BCE.

Sarnath Archaeological Museum

Your final major stop is the Sarnath Archaeological Museum, established during the British period. The museum houses an outstanding collection of sculptures and archaeological discoveries excavated from Sarnath.

Highlights include the famous Lion Capital of Ashoka, which later became the national emblem of India, as well as beautiful Buddhist and Hindu sculptures.

You can also see the remarkable Buddha statue depicting the Dharmachakrapravartana Mudra, representing Buddha’s first sermon at Sarnath, and a striking sculpture of Shiva killing Andhakasura.

Important: The Sarnath Archaeological Museum is closed every Friday. If your tour falls on a Friday, the museum visit will not be possible.
